Holder To Partner Satin Shoes in 2014 Robert Sangster

April 23rd, 2014

While yet to partner the talented five-year-old competitively, local jockey Jason Holder has been confirmed to take the ride outsider Satin Shoes in this weekend’s major Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville Racecourse.

Replacing jockey Brad Rawiller, who has instead taken the ride on two-time Group 1 winner Platelet this weekend, Holder told The Advertiser his appointment on Satin Shoes came solely as a result of chance meeting at track work last week.

“I actually rode track work last Tuesday just to help Clarry and the ride became available” Holder said.

“It was a blessing in disguise that I rode at track work; I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

A standout performer over her debut preparation in the autumn of 2011, Satin Shoes claimed three-victories back-to-back when exploding onto the racing scene, including a two length victory in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m).

Continuing to produce largely strong and consistent results throughout 2012, the Flying Spur mare returned to racing in typically strong condition in 2013, unlucky to finish fourth behind equine superstar Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m).

While yet to hit peak condition over three starts so far this time in, trainer Clarry Conners is confident the central barrier 7 will count for a lot in this weekend’s Robert Sangster Stakes and is optimistic the mare out of Star Satire will break through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing.

Despite contesting a largely strong racing career to date, Satin Shoes is currently offered little hope in betting markets for success in the 2014 Robert Sangster Stakes at particularly generous $31 odds.

Having returned to the track in near-career best form in 2014, Shamal Wind is currently tied with Platelet on the top line of betting for the Robert Sangster Stakes at a quote of $5.50, ahead of Villa Verde and market mover Gregers; currently tied on the second line at $6 odds.
