2015 Robert Sangster Stakes the Target for Magnifisio

December 5th, 2014

Undoubtedly finding career-best form over the 2014 Australian racing calendar, trainer Jim Taylor has revealed the featured Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville Racecourse will figure as the major target for talented West Australian mare Magnifisio through the 2015 Autumn Racing Carnival.

Securing a commendable race record of 12 wins and a further six minor places from just 22 competitive appearances on course so far, Magnifisio ran a credible fourth in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) to begin her summer preparation before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Lee Steere Classic (1400m) on November 8th.

Jumping from the gates well in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) last time out, the Magnus mare received an ideal run in transit on the heels of the race’s early leaders; displaying a keen turn of foot in the final straight to break through for a maiden victory at the highest level.

Understandably thrilled with her 2014 campaign so far, Taylor revealed a return to the paddock following this weekend’s Group 3 AJ Scahill Stakes (1400m) at Ascot is on the cards for Magnifisio, who will return to work in January ahead of her 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes tilt.

“We’re looking at the Sangster for her,” Taylor told the West Australian.

“It’s a weight-for-age fillies and mares’ race worth $400,000 and it looks a nice option.

“I don’t think there are any lead-up races here so she’ll probably go over for the two races.”

Failing to finish outside the places in an impressive six race preparation through the 2013 summer season, Magnifisio finished second in her first three starts before winning all of the Dale Alcock Difference 3.y.o+ (1200m), Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) and Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m).

Returning this year in similarly devastating form, the mare our of Ifestio won both the Listed Northam Toyota Stakes (1100m) and Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) before running fourth in the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) on July 12th.
