2015 Robert Sangster Classic the New Target for Politeness

March 10th, 2015

Talented mare Politeness resumed with a credible third amongst talented company in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) in early February, but after missing each of her next two nominated starts with a hoof injury, is now likely to target the 2015 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) on May 2nd.

Posting a commendable race record of four wins and as many minor place finishes from her 16 competitive starts so far, Politeness more than stamped her claims as one to watch this year when overcoming an early check and late block for third in her 2015 racing return.

Understandably disappointed by the Street Sense mare’s inability to take her place in Victoria over the last two weeks, trainer Robert Smerdon confirmed the 2015 Robert Sangster Classic as an ideal target, revealing the Brisbane Winter Carnival may also figure for the talented four-year-old.

“She has a foot issue and we thought we were on top of it after she galloped well at Sandown on Wednesday and on Thursday she wasn’t too bad but on Friday it was really sensitive so we scratched her,” Smerdon told Racing Victoria.

“By the weekend it wasn’t too bad and she’s still working but it’s just lingering and has put her campaign out of whack and I don’t know if she’ll get to Sydney.

“We might have to look at Adelaide and a race like Robert Sangster and Brisbane remains an option for her too in races like the Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) and Stradbroke (1400m).”

Returning to racing in positive form over the 2014 autumn, Politeness placed sixth in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1100m) first-up before running second in a minor over 1300m and winning the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) on April 12th.

Running fourth in each of the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in spring, the mare out of Berengaria placed fifth in the Group 2  Tristarc Stakes (1400m) and seventh in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) and returned to the paddock after taking out the Group 3 Summond Stakes (1500m) on November 15th.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Robert Sangster Classic is due to be completed and released by midday, April 29th.
