Vain Queen Capable of Overcoming Wide Robert Sangster Draw

April 28th, 2015

Vain Queen has returned to racing in sharp form this time in but will need luck in running in Saturday’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville after again drawing a wide and awkward barrier.

Vain Queen was allocated the wide barrier 9 for her racing return in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) but managed to box for a credible fourth; again leave from gate 9 in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) last start for a close second.

Charged on this occasion to overcome the awkward gate 13, trainer John Sadler conceded the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes situation is not ideal for Vain Queen but is confident she is in the right form to again perform to a high standard from the wide draw.

“It’s definitely not ideal, but there’s a nice straight run to the first turn and we have to deal with what we’ve been dealt,” Sadler told Racing Victoria.

“She can’t go forward from there because it’ll just burn her out, so she’s going to be ridden back in the field.

“She’s the sort of filly that could bounce and be running fourth or fifth, but because she’s drawn 13 she’s going to have to be back running 10th or 11th.

“That probably simplifies what that barrier does to you.

“I have no concerns about her at all. She’s in really good shape.”

Posting seven wins and one minor place through her 14 career starts, Vain Queen immediately stamped her claims as one to watch upon debuting to racing in 2013; taking out each of her first four starts.

Taking a few starts upon resuming in 2014, the Artie Schiller mare returned to the winner’s circle in the Dominant Handicap (1200m) on June 7th; repeating the dose in the All Victorian Handicap (1100m) three weeks later.

Running fourth in each of the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m), Group 3 TheShark.com.au Stakes (1100m) and Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m), Vain Queen ended her 2014 campaign in the best way possible in taking out the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) by close to four lengths on November 6th.
