2016 Robert Sangster Stakes for Almighty Girl

April 12th, 2016

Almighty Girl has stamped herself as a serious racing prospect through a short career so far and has been set on a course towards the 2016 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) during the upcoming Adelaide Autumn Carnival.

Almighty Girl stamped herself as one to watch through two minor starts in January, but underlined her class when completing an impressive all-round performance to beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) on February 26th.

Co-trainer Mitchell Beer has been understandably thrilled with the class displayed by the daughter of Beneteau so-far this time and revealed Saturday’s Vobis Gold Sprint (1000m) at Caulfield will likely figure ahead of a 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes preparation.

“She’s probably going a little bit too well, if anything,” Beer told AAP.

“Our first thoughts after winning the Typhoon Tracy were that we’d give her a couple of weeks off and then bring her up slowly towards the Robert Sangster Stakes.

“But she’s just going too well and she’ll need to have a run before then.

“We’ll look to run her at Caulfield in the VOBIS Gold Sprint on Saturday.

“There’s a couple of other options in Adelaide, but at this stage that looks the likely target.

“She’s just been an amazing horse to help kick off my training career.

“I think she’ll take us a long way in the next couple of years.”

Debuting to racing for an impressive and comfortable win in the Progress Signs Maiden Plate (1000m) on January 18th, Almighty Girl progressed to second behind Heatherly in the Andrew Guy Plate (1100m), in what was her only other competitive start prior to her most recent triumph.

Having jumped well in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes, Almighty Girl took an ideal position in transit at the fore of the field before producing a scintillating turn of foot to hit the line ahead of Secret Agenda.
