Griante has been the stable star for Mornington-based trainer David Brideoake through her entire racing career so far; posting a commendable seven wins and eight minors through a total of twenty-eight competitive starts.

Having returned to racing in particularly slick form this time, Williams partnered by the daughter of Good Journey in a strong gallop between races at Mornington on Monday and is confident the mare is primed for a return to winning form in the 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes on Saturday.

“It’s worked out really well to come to Mornington on a track that’s got nice cushion in it and nice cover,” Williams told Racing Victoria.

“He (Brideoake) was really comfortable giving her a good push for her last gallop going into Saturday’s race.

“She looks well, is very balanced and smooth and felt great the way she went through it.”

Griante returned to racing in 2015 in typically slick form; running fourth in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up before winning the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) and finishing third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m).

Returning to the paddock after running second to Avoid Lightning in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m), Griante took a couple of runs to find form upon resuming in spring, but placed third in the Listed Cup Club Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) before a credible performance for fifth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m).

Completely luckless in transit when 12th in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up this time, the mare out of Grand Strategy produced undoubtedly a career-best performance to date to post a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) on March 19th.

Again unlucky to be blocked for a run when sixth in the Sapphire Stakes most recently on Day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick, Griante has included amongst a talented list of 34 nominations for the Robert Sangster Stakes on Monday.

The 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
