Petits Filous failed to fire in her most recent effort but remains outright $6 favourite in 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Don’t Doubt Mamma ($7) and Griante ($7.50).

Will Petits Filous justify favouritism and post a maiden win at the highest level in the Robert Sangster Stakes, or will one of her classy rivals claim an upset?

1st

Griante ($7.50)

Griante is arguably the class horse of the 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes field, and represents terrific value for money at current $7.50 odds for success. The stable star for David Brideoake through her entire racing career since first appearing on course in 2013, Griante has claimed seven wins and eight minors through twenty-eight competitive appearances. Completely luckless in transit when twelfth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up this time, the Good Journey mare responded in the best way possible with success over a talented field in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) on March 19th. Unable to get out in the final straight when sixth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Griante is drawn ideally in the Robert Sangster Stakes and will be partnered by Craig Williams.

2nd

Sabatini ($21)

Sabatini has been a strong and consistent performer for Lee & Shannon Hope through her entire racing career so far, will have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for second in the Geoff Murphy Handicap (1100m) and is over the 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes odds at her current quote. Winning the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) and running third in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) most notably through her debut campaign, the Street Cry mare resumed in 2015 for consecutive wins in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) most notably. William Pike takes the ride on Sabatini, who will need luck from a wide draw, but will perform well at 56.5kgs.

3rd

Vezalay ($26)

Vezalay is capable of winning any race on her day, and should find ideal racing conditions in the 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes. Ending a typically strong 2015 campaign with success in the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m), the Shamardal mare clearly required a run when thirteenth in the Oakleigh Plate first-up but has since performed well for fifth in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) and fourth in the Sapphire Stakes. Up-and-coming hoop Chris Parnham will take the ride on Vezalay this weekend, who will be right in the finish should she get luck in running.
