English has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and remain an outright favourite in 2017 Robert Sangster Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, despite drifting from opening odds of $4.50 to a current quote of $4.80.

English has been a standout performer for Gai Waterhouse since her debut preparation and ended her two-year-old campaign second behind then stable mate Vancouver in the 2015 edition of the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

Breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in last year’s Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), the Encosta De Lago filly resumed this time for a smart win in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), but failed to fire in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).

Appearing to have the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) won before being swooped on the line by Chautauqua, English was luckless in transit before finishing sixth in the All Aged Stakes last time out and should enjoy a return to 1200m.

English will leave from a central draw in the 2017 Robert Sangster Stakes and will be partnered by in-form hoop Ben Melham.

Sheidel posted her first Group 1 win this season and arguably offers punters the best value in 2017 Robert Sangster Stakes betting markets, at a generous $5.50 quote.

A former Perth galloper, Sheidel has been a strong and consistent performer throughout her entire racing career; posting an impressive fifteen wins and six minors through twenty-nine starts.

Returning to the paddock after finishing second in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in November, the Holy Roman Emperor mare returned this time for a smart win in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) before placing fourth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

Having since placed sixth in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), Sheidel will be partnered by leading Hong Kong hoop Joao Moreira and will leave from barrier 10.

I Am A Star failed to handle the heavy conditions when eighth in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) last time out, but will relish the firmer surface at Morphettville on Saturday and is the sole occupant of the third line of Robert Sangster Stakes betting ($7.50).

Ending her outstanding 2016 preparation with a smart win in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m), the I Am Invincible filly returned to winning form in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) third-up this time on March 11th.

Having repeated the effort in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) in what was her only other start prior to the Doncaster Mile, I Am A Star will jump from barrier 2 in the Robert Sangster Stakes with regular hoop Dean Yendall in the saddle and only 55kgs in tow.
