The 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes will be held at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide on Saturday March 26, 2011.

One of four group races held during the Adelaide Racing Carnival the Robert Sangster Stakes is a weight-for-age race run over a distance of 1,200 metres.

The Robert Sangster Stakes, along with the Group 1 Australasian Oaks held on the same day, provides the perfect opportunity to clean up on the races by betting with online bookmakers such as Luxbet.

Open to fillies and mares only, the 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes is worth $300,000 in prize money.

The Robert Sangster Stakes, along with the Group 1 Australasian Oaks held on the same day, provides the perfect opportunity to clean up on the races by betting with online bookmakers such as Luxbet.

Graceful Anna is set to make a return to racing after a six month spell due to a strained suspensory ligament in the near hind leg.

David Pfieffer, Graceful Anna’s trainer, is convinced of his horses ability to perform after winning her barrier trial at Rosehill on January 4, 2011.

”I will use this race as a guide with her but I think she will be well suited in those black-type mares’ races.

”There is a good program of them, and if she shows she is up to it, I think the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide, being a group 1, would be a good target,” Mr Pfieffer said.

Tom Hugh’s four-year-old mare Miss Octopussy is also being aimed at the 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes.

“She’s entitled to have a go at the Robert Sangster,” Mr Hugh said.

“She’ll be the fresh horse on the scene as she’s had four runs in four months.”

Betting options will be available closer to the nomination date at Luxbet.

Just before 5pm this Saturday at the Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide, the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) will kick off, forming part of the track’s illustrious Schweppes Oaks Lades Day.

While the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) may headline the day’s proceedings, the Robert Sangster Stakes will certainly provide an exciting race, as 20 fillies and mares compete for the $300,000 prize money.

Going into Saturday’s race, it seems Velocitea, trained by Mick Price is the horse to beat at $5.50. The four-year-old mare, starting from the fourth barrier, has won all of her previous three starts – one of which she beat fellow Robert Sangster Stakes starter Valentine Miss.

Close in the odds behind Velocitea is Headway at $6. With a wider start from the 12th barrier, the Peter Moody-trained filly has not placed in her last three starts, and looks to have relatively high odds.

Going into Saturday’s race, it seems Velocitea, trained by Mick Price is the horse to beat at $5.50.

Rounding out the odds for the top three is Majestic Music at $7.

The filly recently won the Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m) at the same track over the same distance as the Robert Sangster Stakes, where she beat fellow starter and strong contender for Saturday’s race Sister Madly, and would provide a substantial reward if she wins on Saturday.

Sister Madly is starting from the second barrier at $8.

Closing the odds for the Robert Sangster Stakes is Falvelon’s Dream at $201. While the five-year-old mare may have seemingly impossible odds, she has placed in two of her last three starts, and would certainly bring back a handsome win if she succeeded in Adelaide.

Also taking place on Saturday will be the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the Group 3 The Jansz National Stakes (1200m).

The Morphettville Racecourse will come to life this Saturday as the Schweppes Oaks Ladies Day takes place, and while the Schweppes Oaks dominates the day’s proceedings, the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) will be another feature.

Also known as the Sportingbet Classic, the Robert Sangster Stakes will be the seventh race of the day, kicking off just before 5pm with a large 20-horse line up.

The fillies and mares will compete over the 1,200 metres for a share in the $300,000 on offer.

Drawing the inside barrier is Cerberus Gal who came third in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) in March.

Majestic Music is a strong contender and will start on Saturday in the middle 10th barrier.

Starting out wide will be the Gordon Richards-trained Jaalippy and with such a large field will certainly feel the wrath of the wide draw. The four-year-old mare finished second in the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) and will need to draw on her experience to succeed in the Robert Sangster Stakes.

Majestic Music is a strong contender after winning the Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m) and will start on Saturday in the middle 10th barrier. The three-year-old filly beat the Anthony Cummings-trained Sister Madly, the filly took the runners up spot, and is starting the Robert Sangster Stakes from the second barrier.

Also taking place at the Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday will be the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the Group 3 The Jansz National Stakes (1200m).

The Adelaide Racing Carnival is well underway and is looking to the 20th of March for one of its most prestigious days of racing – the Schweppes Oaks Ladies Day.

While the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) headlines the day’s proceedings, the Group 1 Sportingbet Classic (1200m), previously known as the Robert Sangster Stakes, will be another feature.

Drawing some of South Australia’s top fillies and mares to the Morphettville Racecourse, the race will see the starters compete under weight-for-age conditions over 1,200 metres, all hoping to get a share in the $300,000 prize money.

Currently there are 30 nominations for the Sportingbet Classic all of which seem set to provide a top class line up on the 20th of March.

One mare to certainly keep an eye on is the local four-year-old Augusta Proud. Winner of the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) on the 8th of March at the Morphettville Racecourse, and beating Cerberus Gal who finished in third, Augusta Proud is a favourite going into the Sportingbet Classic.

One mare to certainly keep an eye on is the local four-year-old Augusta Proud.

Trained by Leon McDonald and Andrew Gluyas, Augusta Proud is just one entrant the duos have for the Sportingbet Classic, with Impressive Eagle and Majestic Music making up the three nominations.

Majestic Music won the Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m) at the Morphettville Racecourse on the 8th of March, beating Sister Madly, and Happy Hippy into second and third spots respectively, who are also nominated for the Sportingbet Classic.

Also forming part of the Schweppes Oaks Ladies Day on the 20th of March will be the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the Group 3 The Jansz National Stakes (1200m).

As the Morphettville Racecourse prepares to host one of its most elite race days in the Adelaide Carnival – the Robert Sangster Stakes Day, the headlining race being the 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes, is drawing closer.

The Group 1 race, held on Saturday the 20th of March, is a fillies and mares, weight-for-age event over 1,200 metres and sees some of the country’s top competitors vying for a slice of the $300,000 purse.

The 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes seems set to be host to the Mick Price-trained Velocitea. The four-year-old would certainly be a strong contender having won the Hyderabad Race Club Stakes in February.

The 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes seems set to be host to the Mick Price-trained Velocitea.

There has also been talk about the three-year-old Black Caviar competing in the 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes. While there is a possibility the Peter Moody-trained filly may head overseas at some point this season, if she were to start in the Robert Sangster Stakes, she could be a favourite as her last three starts have all resulted in wins.

While the 2010 Robert Sangster Stakes will headline the proceedings at the Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide on the 20th of March, the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the Group 3 The Jansz National Stakes (1200m) are two other notable races to take place.
